A crime boss nicknamed Pancho (aka David Panchvidze, aka Georgiy Kipiani), sentenced on Thursday to 12 years in prison, denied his position as a top criminal and retracted his confession to drug possession.
As a reminder, Kipiani was arrested in 2021 on his way home in the Khimki urban district. Detectives found narcotics in the car he was driving.
As MK has learned, the prosecution insisted that the crime boss occupied a top position in the criminal hierarchy and also charged him with illegal possession and transportation of large quantities of drugs. The Moscow Regional Court sentenced the 62-year-old crime boss. The state prosecutor requested 15 years in prison; the court handed him 12 years.
"My client was forced to admit that the drugs belonged to him because the car they were found in was registered to his daughter," lawyer Oleg Gromtsev offered his theory. "According to the detectives, Pancho was crowned by people he had no connection with at the time."
According to the lawyer, Pancho reacted calmly to the verdict—like an "old, sick, and wise man." Immediately after the verdict was announced, the crime boss announced he would appeal. Incidentally, his daughter flew in from Georgia specifically to support her father. (Moskovsky Komsomolets, October 6, 2022, Dmitry Bolenkov)
