Understanding the Sphinx: Layers of Stone Like a Cake
One of the best ways to understand the geology of the Sphinx is that it's made up of three membranes. There's three different slices of "cake" that make up the Sphinx and the top layer, or the head, is the hardest layer of stone. Why do you think these layers are different in their composition?
