This week we are learning all about the importance of practice, perseverance and not worrying about making mistakes when learning a foreign language.
Tonton is trying his hardest to say 'gâteau' in English!
"Je parle le francais" = I speak French
"Je parle l'anglais" = I speak English
Tonton is starting to learn English and he is having a go at saying his first few words.
Although he feels silly and shy when he gets the words wrong, he is very proud of himself when he keeps trying and gets it right!
Words of encouragement are very important in any language. Listen to how Heidi encourages Tonton to not give up...
"Essaie encore Tonton" = Try again Tonton.
A very simple phrase that you can apply to any daily activity with your child.
"Vas-y!" = Go on!
This is used similarly to English, eg. "go on, give it another try" or "go on, get out the door!"
"Ce n'est pas grave" = It doesn't matter (Usually abbreviated when spoken to 'c'est pas grave'
Heidi also asks Tonton...
"Comment dit-on...en Anglais/Francais?" = How do you say... in English/Francais?
This is a great question for testing vocabulary as you are out and about. Just ask this question a couple of times a day and you will see your child's vocabulary soar!
