French hand rhymes for kids

Learn a new French hand rhyme with Heidi and Tonton the French-speaking tortoise.
This is not a traditional hand rhyme that you would have heard before, because we made it up!
It is very silly and totally nonsensical but if you use it to learn new vocabulary with your child you will see how much fun they have and how quickly they will learn.
Of course you don't have to stuff toys down your t-shirts, you can hide them behind your back instead.
Then you can hide your face in your t-shirt like Tonton!
This rhyme helps kids to think about whether to use the masculine and feminine articles ‘le’ and ‘la’. I recommend that when you start using the rhyme that you use the same two objects (one masculine, one feminine) over and over to build up the muscle memory for those particular words so that it becomes second nature for your child to say them correctly. Another benefit of this rhyme is that you can use it to help distinguish between using the singular ‘Where is’ and the plural ‘where are’ – ‘Où est’ and ‘Où sont’
The chant words are:

Dilly doo, dilly doo
Où est la baleine?
Dilly doo, dilly doo
Où est Tonton la Tortue?
Où sont les voitures?
Dilly doo, dilly doo
Où sont les billes?
Dilly doo, dilly doo
Où est Tonton la Tortue?!
