Old Brick Repair, Lime Mortar, and Repointing
𝘽𝙧𝙞𝙘𝙠 𝙈𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙖𝙧 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙗𝙡𝙚𝙢𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙍𝙚𝙥𝙖𝙞𝙧: Brick mortar joints cleaned out and ready to repoint! Dampen the brick, fill the bed joints, then the head joints...𝘥𝘰𝘯'𝘵 𝘴𝘬𝘪𝘮𝘱 𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘱, pack the mortar in deep! Tool it down neat, then let it "set", and brush it of/final dress...done!
𝗠𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗿: Type N (lime-based). 3 (sand):1 (mortar) mix.
𝗡𝗢𝗧𝗘 - this is slightly newer brick, hence the Type N mortar.
𝗢𝗟𝗗 𝗕𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗞 - Old brick is a 𝗟𝗢𝗧 softer, the proper mix is: 3 to 1. 3 (sand) to 1 (50/50 Type N and lime) ...
