2012 Replica Space Shuttle comes to Texas
Florida, Washington DC, Los Angeles received orbiters from the retired Space Shuttle fleet. In addition, New York City received the test shuttle Enterprise. However, Houston received a shuttle chair for its involvement in the Shuttle Program; an insult to thousands of shuttle employees (including astronauts) that live in the Houston area. After some complaining, as a consolation prize, Space Center Houston received the Shuttle replica Explorer that was housed at Florida's Kennedy Space Center the previous 18 years. On Friday June 1, the replica passes through the channel between Seabrook TX and the Kemah Boardwalk in Kemah TX on its way to its permanent home at NASA's Space Center Houston.
