Upper Yosemite Falls is a 7.2 mile out-and-back with 3,000 feet of gain in 3.6 miles. The trail is steep and exposed, but engineered switchbacks make it doable for fit hikers. You'll see Half Dome, the valley floor, and multiple angles of the 2,425-foot waterfall as you climb. At the top, a viewing platform puts you right at the falls' edge. Best in spring when flow is high, but expect crowds. No permit needed for day hikes. Bring plenty of water and start early to avoid afternoon heat.
