Introducing “Polyvagal Theory” by Dr Stephen Porges, in 2 minutes (full video on IG)

Polyvagal Theory looks at our Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) in response to our environmental demands & stimuli. If our surroundings are full of perceived or actual threats, our instinctive systems will respond accordingly; causing an experience of dysregulation.

The ANS branches into ➡️
Parasympathetic Nervous System: connected to Vagus Nerve
Ventral Vagal Circuit
Dorsal Vagal Circuit
&
Sympathetic Nervous System

Next week I’ll be exploring the “Polyvagal Ladder” to see how we can merge our ANS states to create hybrid responses and aim to teach our nervous system to move away from Threat alert, once threat has passed.

Over the next few weeks I’ll be doing a deeper dive into the following subjects & how they all interconnect:
Polyvagal Ladder
Window of Tolerance,
Neuroception,
Sensory & Emotional Overwhelm
The Vagus Nerve
Stimming & Vagus Nerve Stimulation
Hybrid Nervous System States
Neuroplasticity

I’m exploring this neuroscience application towards my special interest areas of:
Autism & Neurodiversity
Sensory processing sensitivity
Post Traumatic Stress
Dissociation, Fragmentation & Parts work
Mental Health & Wellbeing
