Jaime Carlosama grew up without electricity, in the countryside of Colombia and Ecuador.
He drew with charcoal while his father worked the land.
At 12, he left home.
At 30, he migrated to London on a student visa.
He worked cleaning, in construction, and in restaurants.
He didn't speak English. He didn't know anyone.
He reunited his family.
He lived in government-run hotels.
He bought his first house in East London.
He became a single father.
And years later, he sold a piece of art for £9,000.
Today, he is an artist in Europe and the creator of the J Carlosama Ibero-American Prize, named in honor of his father.
This isn't just an art story.
It's a story of starting over in the UK.
