Introducing PowerPlex® 18E™: The First 8-Colour STR System for European Forensic Labs
PowerPlex® 18E™ is the first 8-colour STR system developed for the European market, following all GU guidelines and recommendations from European National Forensic Science Institutes.
In this short video, Anupama Gopalakrishnan, from Promega, explains how laboratories typically receive challenging samples, such as those from mass graves unearthed worldwide, where human remains have endured significant environmental stress and are not in pristine condition. Unlike DNA extracted from fresh human blood, which is in good condition, these samples are often highly degraded.
She says,
"With PowerPlex® 18E™, we ensure that all 16 recommended loci by the ENFSI are within 325 base pairs. Even if the DNA is highly fragmented, we have a much higher chance of obtaining a full profile because our primers are positioned closer together. This is possible only with our 8-colour system."
PowerPlex® 18E™ is the first 8-dye STR kit compatible with both the high-throughput Spectrum® CE System and the low-throughput Spectrum Compact CE System, catering to different laboratory throughput needs. Both systems are capable of running PowerPlex® 18E™ chemistry efficiently in the lab.
