Some people go to Vegas to see a show, others go to gamble...
I went to CombatCon.
CombatCon is a convention celebrating martial arts in pop culture that's held every summer in Las Vegas, Nevada.
While there's a heavy emphasis on Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA), the convention also offers a wide variety of classes and events covering everything from fighting for the screen and stage, modern self defense, historical weapons training, and so much more.
2022 marked the 10-year anniversary of the convention, and for this year, the organizers offered a set of Intensives, or course programs tailored to a specific focus.
There were 4 total intensive tracks offered. One for writers, one for stunt performers, one for filmmakers, which I took part in, and one focused on the McLemore Fighting System, hence the use of knives and tomahawks in this short.
The whole program was lovingly described as a 48-hour film festival... with knives.
A total of two shorts were produced, with this being the short I directed, and originally debuted during the closing ceremonies of the convention.
I'll make a later video going into more detail about my experiences at the convention.
