Visual Arts for Elementary Students | Create Now
From October 2-December 11, 2017, Create Now provided all of the kindergarten, first and second grade students at Camino Nuevo Charter Academy (Jose Castellanos campus) in Pico-Union with classes in the visual arts.
This school has a dual language Spanish-English program to help their students learn, since most are immigrants. The majority of the children qualify for free lunch.
Everyone loved our classes. Kindergartners were taught drawing by Geir Forshaug. The first graders learned painting with Brittany Ko, and Geir instructed the second graders in sculpture. On December 11th, the school hosted an Open House for the parents to visit and see all of the artwork that was created.
Starting in February 2018, Create Now will launch our Create a Mural Now workshop for the fourth graders, and Create a City Now for the fifth graders, so stay tuned!

Create Now is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 1996 that helps youth in need find their voices through arts mentoring and education. We serve abused, homeless, incarcerated and other challenged youth ages 2-21 through our therapeutic programs in music, writing, visual arts, digital media, fashion design, and performing arts.
Each year, we also bring thousands of these "forgotten children" who have fallen through the cracks to concerts, plays and other cultural events at premiere venues in the region. We have reached 42,000 of the most troubled youth in Southern California during the last 21 years.
