8 The Tractor Beam
Heir to the Empire Chapter 16 (first half), from my soundtracks for the Thrawn Trilogy from the Star Wars Extended Universe.
When his X-Wing is brought out of hyperspace unexpectedly, Luke finds himself under attack by Imperial ships. He tries to get free of the artificial gravity well of the Interdictor Cruiser, but before he can escape to hyperspace, the Star Destroyer Chimaera locks him in a tractor beam. As he is pulled inexorably in, he decides upon a desperate maneuver: he fires proton torpedoes, and when the tractor beam briefly locks on to them instead of his ship, he jumps to lightspeed. However, his hyperdrive is damaged and, though free of the Imperials, finds himself dead in space a short while later.
