In this video, we will calculate a simple heat exchanger with the software Ansys. We will generate a structured mesh as far as possible. We will compare the Ansys model with an empirical model.
Problem
In a double tube heat exchanger with a length of 300 mm, hot water should be cooled by cold water. The hot water with a temperature at the inlet of 80 °C is flowing in the inner tube with a mass flow of 100 g/s. The cold water with a temperature at the inlet of 20 °C is flowing in the outer tube with a mass flow of 200 g/s. The fluids flow in countercurrent. The inner tube has an inner diameter of 10 mm and a wall thickness of 1 mm. The outer tube has an inner diameter of 16 mm (the wall thickness of the outer tube is not necessary, since only the heat transfer from the hot water through the wall of the inner tube to the cold water will be calculated). The tube material is aluminum. The operation pressure is 1 bar. The temperature of hot water at the outlet should be calculated.
