Eunice from TekUnicorn reviews the Cowon Plenue D! While I'm not an audiophile, I love high fidelity audio and these just are my honest opinions in the perspective of a music enthusiast. If you were on the fence of buying this device, my advice would be: BUY IT! It's worth every penny. Their prices have dropped on Amazon: you can buy the Gold edition for $200 and the Silver edition (the one that I reviewed here) for $215. What I love about this device is that seems to be a perfectly satisfying EQ preset (JetEffect 5) for every song that I listen to; and I listen to pretty much all genres! So I love the versatility of Plenue D.
Alternative option would be the Fiio X3ii or Fiio X5ii; they both have pretty good sound quality as well but in my opinion, they don't sound as impressive as the Plenue D (w/JetEffect on), and the EQ presets on the Fiio are not very flexible. However, the Fiio X3ii/X5ii can be made to sound pretty darn epic when paired with a DAC (digital audio converter) like the Fiio E12 Mont Blanc. But the E12 itself is about $100, so you'd be spending a lot of money than to just go with the Plenue D and also adding extra bulk. So for these reasons, in standalone mode, I would say that Plenue D is the winner. However, if you cannot stand lags and few bugs here and there and very much prefer an iPod-style HiFi player, then I'd recommend going with the Fiio X3ii and the X5ii (if you have more money to spend). Keep in mind that these devices are both heavier and larger than the Plenue D, but they do feel more rugged and tough. Also, both the Fiio X3/X5 and the Plenue D lacks Bluetooth support. But as I've mentioned in the video, you can easily just buy an aptX Bluetooth Transmitter (like this one: https://www.amazon.com/TaoTronics-Blu...) and manually add Bluetooth compatibility on your DAP.
