New to Guitar? Make This Your First Goal

This video is meant to be an overview of what your first goal should be when starting out with the guitar. Remember, it takes practice to get these things down so don't get demotivated if you feel like it's too hard, it's hard for everyone in the beginning. The difference between someone who learns and someone who doesn't is resilience to keep coming back, so keep at it! I know you can make it, and once you do, you won't regret the effort.

3 Keys to Effective Transformation:    • 3 Keys to Effective Transformation - Learn...

Here's a recap!

*Pareto Principle*: 80% of the effects come out of 20% of the causes. In guitar, this translates to the fact that you can play the great majority of songs with a handful of chords. Also, if you practice the right things you'll see incredible results.

*YOR FIRST MAIN OBJECTIVE*:
1. Learn open chords.
2. Learn basic strumming patterns (start with just downstrokes to the beat).
3. Learn to transition between chords while keeping the tempo (start slow and gradually increase the tempo).

The simplest way to play a song is to play its basic chords (the right chords, in the right orders, for the right amount of time).
A chord is simply three or more different notes played at the same time.
Most songs are made up of just a handful of chords played in a loop (oftentimes 3-4), and that repeated over and over for the entire song.

What chords should you learn first? How many chords are there?
There are 5 fundamental chord shapes (remember they spell out CAGED). With these, you'll have the basis for all the chords you need to learn in the beginning.
Those shapes are all shapes of Major chords, shapes for Minor chords just involve slightly altering the Major shapes for the most part (sometimes as easy as just lifting a finger).
Two easy chords to start with are Em and Am (they derive from the E and A shape respectively).
