Is our self care performative?
Are we doing self care wrong? Let's talk about self care as an act of political resistance. Forget the face masks, overpriced scented candles, and spa days for a moment. Forget the "self care products every girl needs". Let's go beyond all this. What is self care?
I understand why we go for these self care products - life under the capitalist system is tough. There's nothing wrong about making quick "repairs" on ourselves in between the heavy load of work or worry, most times both. But there's so much more to self care.
Everything is political, and so is this emptied-out consumerism-focused self care industry we are pushed into. And the future of self care can be politically conscious as it has been in the past.
Let's talk about this!
