What Does GIF Actually Stand For? | The History of GIFs Explained
Ever wondered what GIF stands for? In this quick video, I explain the meaning behind one of the internet's most popular file formats and share a bit of its fascinating history.
What you'll learn:

What GIF stands for (Graphics Interchange Format)
Who created the GIF format and when
Why GIFs became so popular on the early internet
How GIFs evolved from simple web graphics to the animated memes we love today

A Brief History:
The GIF format was created by Steve Wilhite at CompuServe in 1987 as a way to display colour images on the early internet. Its clever compression made it perfect for the slow dial-up connections of the time. While originally designed for simple graphics and logos, the format's ability to support animation made it a cultural phenomenon - from the dancing baby of the 90s to today's reaction GIFs that have become a language of their own.
Fun fact: There's still debate about whether it's pronounced "gif" (hard G) or "jif" (soft G) - even though the creator says it's "jif"!
