In this video, I will be telling you about my initial reasons for coming to Japan, and I will show you what my first day in Japan looked like...
And you can summarize it like that - ONSEN. I am a huge fan of any wellness-like culture, natural hot springs, saunas, banya's, call it my game. Now, I can add onsen to this list. And onsen is one of the amazing reasons to come to Japan.
Interesting facts about onsen:
Onsen 温泉, pronounced as “oun-saen,” is a widely-known term related to relaxation in Japan, and is the local name for a hot spring. It is a source of hot water baths located in different parts of Japan, usually situated around a volcanic area.
How to use onsen?
Your first stop will be at the lockers. You’ll strip naked (this is non-negotiable). For women, there are a lot of lotions and other supplies to remove make-up, etc. If you have long hair, you need to put it up in a bun. You are allowed to bring a small onsen towel with you to use on your face and head.
Then you’ll head to the showers. Grab a wooden stool, sit down, and wash your body thoroughly. Wash every inch of your skin like you mean it. I thought I knew how to wash myself until I came to Japan. It is an art in itself.
You are now ready to enter the onsen. Make sure your hair or face towel doesn't touch the water. Don't forget to simply put the little towel on top of your head, it is helpful, believe me.
Now sit back, close your eyes, and relax... But, remember, the water temperatures can be very high, so make sure you take breaks and go to a cool-down area for a little.
Thank you for watching and for your support, as always!
