Propane tank explodes and burns truck to the ground
I had a 20lb propane tank in the bed of my truck, parked in my driveway, getting ready to take it to Blossman (local propane dealer) to inspect it and fill it. I was on my couch when I heard a loud bang followed by the roar of rushing fire. I looked out the window and saw the propane tank in the bed of my truck spewing flames like a rocket. It immediately caught the truck on fire (within seconds) and the whole thing burned down in ten minutes. The local fire department was slow and late and unable to do much. I lost everything. Thousands of dollars of towing equipment, recovery gear, tie down ratchets, camping gear and my wallet with over $300 cash, my license, cards, etc.
All gone.
How does a propane tank do this? Aren't they supposed to have release valves and protection features to prevent this kind of thing? What if this were attached to my grill at my home?
