Light-hearted look at the possible 16th century origins of Minecraft. What inspired or predicted Minecraft, Lego figures, cubism art, pixelated computer graphics etc? They do say that there is nothing new under the sun. Is history really just a linear straight line of incremental technological progress or infinitely more complex than we're led to believe? Why do past predictions often in some way come true? Our brains are sophisticated pattern recognition machines that can make connections between disparate things, often erroneous but sometimes spawning ingenious, groundbreaking ideas.
