Lewis and Clark: Beginnings (1803): Session 1
The journey of Lewis and Clark to the Pacific (and back home) is one of America's most iconic stories. Frankly, not one of them should've survived this trip...but they did...all but one (and he died of causes unrelated to the expedition). It's a journey of grit, hardship, failure, joy, and triumph.
In this opening session, you'll be introduced to this grand story, learn why Thomas Jefferson commissioned the expedition, then follow Meriwether Lewis as he spent 1803 learning to lead and document, preparing to travel and, finally, hitting the river. From Washington, D.C. to St. Louis, MO and the Corps of Discovery's first winter in Camp Wood River, IL.
