Itilhaney Samyak; Samyak Mahadaan which takes place once in five years teaches the "Daan" paramita; one of the ten paramitas. "Daan" means donating selflessly.
Gigantic images of Dipankar Buddha are displayed in the premises of Nagbahal. The Dipankar Buddhas are brought from the ancient Baha Bahis of the valley.
This ceremony is said to have started by the king named "Bharibharo"; a Thakuri Malla king who selflessly donated all his belongings and in turn became rich with gold and ornaments. He donated all those for the sentient beings and practiced the "Daan" paramita.
During the Samyak Mahadaan, a member from the lineage of the Malla king also known as "Thaku Juju" in native terms performs the ritual of worshipping the "Dasa Paramita Aajus" (the selected ten elderlies who represent the Ten Paramitas) of Hiranyabarna Mahabihar which is the organising committee for the Samyak Mahadaan. The "Thaku Juju" washes the feets of the Aajus as they proceed for Bhumi Sodhan along with further rituals including Kaa: baja.
Bhumi Sodhan is the ritual which follows after the puja by Thaku Juju. In this ritual, a senior members pours a special fluid along the ground where all the Dipankar Tathagatas are seated. This is said to be done to purify the ground.
Of all, it teaches all the sentient beings about the practice of giving "Daan" and accumulate merits by selflessly devoting oneself to the supreme.
