The Nossa Senhora da Conceição Socio-Pastoral Center is celebrating 40 years of activity in Mãe Luiza and has prepared a very special program to celebrate this beautiful journey. The event will take place from May 3rd to 5th, 2023, at 7 PM, at the Arena do Morro Gymnasium and on Alameda Verde Padre Sabino Gentili, next to the Catholic Church, open to the public. Throughout these four decades of existence, various demands brought by the community have been transformed into concrete actions; this itinerary has allowed the Center to realize that it has built a new model of social inclusion.

May 3rd – 7 PM –
Cultural Event “40 Years of the Socio-Pastoral Center in Mãe Luiza”. (Alameda Verde Padre Sabino Gentili, next to the Catholic Church, Mãe Luiza);
The Center's spaces have prepared a very special cultural evening with beautiful musical, dance, and theater performances, culminating in a recital by the Mãe Luiza Philharmonic Band to celebrate this journey, always guided by collectivity, with the entire community. Come and enjoy this moment with us; you are part of this story!
May 4th – 7 PM
Roundtable “Social Development and Architecture” and launch of the “Living Communities Architecture Competition” (Arena do Morro Gymnasium, Camaragibe Street, Mãe Luiza);
The event aims to discuss the role of architecture in social development through community participation.
PANEL – SPEAKERS
-Prof. Heitor de Andrade (Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte – UFRN) speaking about “The participatory process of the community in producing answers to its priority problems”.
Architect Tomislav Dushanov (Herzog & de Meuron Office) speaking about “The participatory process in the construction of the Arena do Morro Gymnasium”.
Architect Sarah Andrade (PhD candidate in Architecture, UFRN) presenting the “Call for Entries for the Living Communities competition” which envisions a Sports Complex in Felipe Camarão. The competition will have the following prizes: 1st Place R$ 10,000.00; 2nd Place R$ 3,000.00; 3rd Place R$ 2,000.00. It will be open to architects from our state, and the presence of architecture students is optional.
Moderator: Architect Lúcio Dantas. Coordinator: Professor Josélia Silva.
Under the coordination of architect Nilberto Gomes, the panel will be followed by a discussion, questions and answers about the competition.

May 5th – 7 PM
Book Launch: “Mãe Luiza: Building Optimism” (Arena do Morro Gymnasium, Camaragibe Street, Mãe Luiza);
Launch in Natal of the book Mãe Luiza – Building Optimism by (Gryphus Editora), which includes the novel “The Construction of a New Sun”, by Paulo Lins – author of the bestseller “City of God”, who will be present for a book signing.
During the three days of the event, the spaces of the Socio-Pastoral Center will also be hosting a historical exhibition. Each institution will display its “Timeline”, with photos, texts, and videos, detailing the history of each activity developed by the Center in the community. Everyone is invited to visit the exhibitions and learn more about this journey.
