ARTventure 2024 - Benito Nunez, Photography
The City of Costa Mesa's 2024 ARTventure Photography category winner Benito Nunez is an Orange County artist who draws inspiration from his personal experiences with Mexican and American culture. His works are sometimes melancholy and often whimsical, and reflects nostalgia, the absurdity of the world and a playful spirit he inherited from his father. His winning photo, "Luchador" is a modern rendering of the 1960's and 1970's Mexican wrestling matches - "Lucha Libre" - seen on TV and in films. Though the wrestlers in the images are portrayed by Lego mini figures, they defy their intert nature and fill the images with dynamic action and a passionate portrayal of their nostalgic Lucha Libre wrestling personas.
