Photography 101: Aperture Priority Mode
If you're looking to graduate up from Auto mode but full Manual seems a bit too much, then this two-part video series is for you. Here I break down two semi-automatic shooting modes that I use all the time.
In this first part I'll give you a 30,000 foot view of the Aperture Priority Mode (Av). This mode is great for capturing stunning portraits, product & food photos, as well as landscape & architecture shots.
In Part 2 we will cover Shutter Priority Mode (Tv). That mode is ideal for capturing fast action, photographing the night sky, and other long exposure projects.
To take things to the next level, consider the following steps:
Limit your ISO to reduce grain
Buy an ND filter (if you're camera doesn't have one built in) to help maintain an open aperture in bright daylight
Pick up a "fast" (low F Stop value) prime lens if your camera has interchangeable lenses. You can find great deals on used lenses if you don't want to make a big investment
