Tidetech's primary scientific expertise lies in constructing and running numerical models which output tidal elevations, currents, storm and tide surges. Our scientists are former UK Government researchers who were the brains behind the world's first operational tide-surge model; still in use as the UK's storm surge warning system informing decisions about the operation of the River Thames flood barrier in London.
We produce operational forecast models for regions round the world where tides and currents can have a significant impact on marine activity and make these data available to customers on a daily basis via our data service. We also have strong expertise in the scientific assessment of third party meteorological and oceanographic datasets and we routinely access a wide range of carefully selected products from government and academic sources worldwide for inclusion into our catalogue. All products are curated on our custom, industry-leading data platform specially designed to host large scale, complex meteorological and oceanographic datasets. This ensure we can provide a fast, reliable service with high capacity and availability. Our comprehensive catalogue includes forecast and hindcast (historical) data for wind, waves and currents, with multiple parameters available. Global data is available for all parameters and regional high resolution data is available for most. Data services include API's that provide end points for gridded data (NetCDF and GRIBs), and point data (individual locations). We also provide a WMTS (Web Map Tile Service) that delivers images for data visualisation purposes.
