This technique is used a lot by professional or designer pattern makers. This stitch helps eliminate the need to crochet a chain then work in your stitches. By creating a foundation single crochet, your work is more finished and professional-looking and has the added benefit of being more 'stretchy' making this stitch perfect for neckline or armholes.
