Welcome to the tutorial series on WinAutomation.

WinAutomation can truly set your work on autopilot. It enables you to execute processes based on schedules and triggers that you have configured, in both Attended and Unattended mode.

We can say a process is running in attended mode when you are logged on and active on the workstation. In attended mode, processes execute alongside users, and can pass tasks back and forth, enabling interaction between the user and the automated task, or process.

On the other hand, in Unattended mode, a process does not explicitly require you to be active and logged on to the workstation. This is achieved by the Autologin feature, which authorizes
WinAutomation to login on the user’s behalf.

This way a Process can run autonomously from start to finish, and use of interactive or non-interactive actions will not affect it.

But what is the difference between interactive and non-interactive actions?

An interactive action is an action that requires the control of the machine during its execution or more simply for a user to be logged his/her account. For example, the “Move mouse to image” action is an interactive action as it gets the control from the user to perform the action. For processes which include such interactive actions, unattended execution requires the use of WinAutomation’s Autologin feature.

On the other hand, the “Get files in folder” action is a non- interactive action that can work in the background. It does not require the control of the machine or the user to be logged in during the execution.

To illustrate the difference between attended and unattended automation, consider the process that was automatically generated using the Web Recorder in a previous tutorial video. This process involves a number of interactive actions- it launches a webpage, searches for all the records of people who reside
in Sacramento, California and produces an Excel spreadsheet.

To enable unattended automation, you need to navigate to the “process properties – run policy” tab and select the options “to unlock & start the process” in case the workstation is locked, and the “log in & start the process”, in case the user is not logged in.
