Amazing view tonight of the northern lights over Seattle. The moderate geomagnetic storm that was predicted to reach Earth on Oct 11, 2021 put on an incredible show for us in Edmonds, WA.
This was my FIRST TIME seeing the aurora borealis... wow. I had no idea the you could see such amazing aurora over Seattle!
Of course, after 2 wonderful hours, right as I was freezing cold and starting to pack up, somebody yelled "look at THAT!" and it was on again! I was stunned at how vivid and dynamic the lights were, moving 10-20deg in a matter of seconds across the sky, with some faint red and green visible to the eye.
Next time I'll bring coffee and a blanket!
Even though my camera settings were a bit off, I'm very happy with how my filming the northern lights with my Nikon D7500 went! 8 second exposures, ISO 800, using a Sigma 17-50 lens wide open (f/2.8, 17mm). Nikon timelapses are amazing!
