Hiking And Camping In The Alberta Kootenay Plains
We spent a few days in the Kootenay Plains Ecological Reserve area, specifically to see the Siffleur Falls.
Siffleur Falls consist of three separate waterfalls within the Siffleur River, which is a tributary to the North Saskatchewan River. The falls are a short distance from the David Thompson Highway, or highway 11, and there is a parking lot that acts as the trailhead. The trail to the falls is roughly 7 km out and back and the trail is rated as moderate. Stay on main paths and behind guard rails to ensure your safety as there have been fatalities in this area. It is possible to continue along this trail to the 2nd and 3rd falls, however as the video shows we could not continue to what we thought was the 3rd due to washout.

We stayed at the Two O'clock Creek Campground, which is very close the the Siffleur Falls trailhead. The campsite is within the Kootenay Plains Provincial Recreation Area, 67 km west of Nordegg, Alberta on highway 11. They have both unserviced sites suitable for RVs and walk-in sites. Most sites are found in open grassland, with a few found next to Two O'clock Creek.
