PERU: FORMER PRESIDENT ALBERTO FUJIMORI DIES AT 86 | RTVE News
Former Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori has died at the age of 86 after "a long battle with cancer," according to his daughter, political leader Keiko Fujimori, who announced the news on social media. His personal physician and congressman, Alejandro Aguinaga, had previously reported that the politician was "fighting" for his life after visiting him at his home.
The Peruvian government has conveyed its condolences to the former president's family, and Prime Minister Gustavo Adrianzén stated that they are already coordinating his funeral in accordance with official protocol. "We wish to express our condolences to the family, friends, and supporters of former President Alberto Fujimori," he said.
Peruvian state protocol dictates that flags will be flown at half-mast and official mourning will be declared. The wake will be held privately, but the funeral honors will be celebrated with official attendance.
