York to Selby cycle route, part of the Trans Pennine Trail. This off road cycle route runs from York (for example, from the railway station, or from Askham Bar Park & Ride) to Selby. It takes the route of the old railway line.
The first part has models of the planets of the solar system, to scale, and the correct distance (proportionally) from the sun (the start of the route). So you can cycle the solar system.
The traffic-free cycle route, built by Sustrans, goes past Bishopthorpe, over the Ouse near York Marina, past Naburn, and to Riccall. From there, it is a combination of a cycle path alongside the A19, and quiet roads through Riccal and Barlby.
The worst bit of the route is the final short stretch to Selby. There's a choice of a rough path by the Ouse wall, or a bad painted cycle lane on the main A19.
