I am honestly surpised more people don’t talk about this in Haunted Mansion history. It was an easy way to bring back an old concept and it makes the Mansion’s design make more sense in this location beyond just the New Orleans-inspired area.

The book the Imagineers at WED used to guide their design of the Haunted Mansion’s exterior is called the Decorative Art of Victoria’s Era by Frances Lichten. The exteror design for Walt Disney World’s version can also be found in this book, as can some smaller elements for the Mansion.

Swift’s Chicken Plantation restaurant was relatively short-lived in Disneyland history. It was only open from 1955-1962, but served up chicken dinners reminiscent of the ones Walt often enjoyed at Knott’s Berry Farm. When they added the Blue Bayou restaurant and Pirates of the Caribbean roughly on the same site, they added a tribute to this original Disneyland building inside the restaurant. So the building is still kinda sorta there but you can only see it from Pirates or if you’re dining in the restaurant, not from the Rivers of America. Pieces from that building also used to be in the Adventureland Bazaar because Rolly Crump repurposed them for his design of that shop once upon a time, but I don’t believe they are there anymore.
