NOAQ Boxwall Flood Barrier DIY Pool Part 2 The Release
After creating a DIY pool at a backyard BBQ using the NOAQ Boxwall, we had to release the water back to the river. In doing this, it was necessary to create a route for the water to go where we were able to experiment with some additional flood barriers. Some of the key point are:
Water Filled Flood Tubes did a great job in holding water back when sitting on concrete. (with and without a plastic liner)
It is important to reinforce Water Filled Flood Tubes from rolling due to the pressure of the water. It was also important to properly/completely fill the Water Filled Flood Tubes.
When creating the pool, we used a plastic liner to prevent seepage. We used multiple pieces of plastic which we taped together. We should have taken greater care to ensure the plastic pieces were taped together or better yet, use a single piece of plastic. Seepage was not horrible but, we could have kept the yard drier if we had done this.
Seepage at our 'flood barrier tie-in' would have been easily prevented by using plastic to ensure a better seal as we suggest anytime we tie a flood barrier into a wall during a 'real-world' deployment.
The Water Filled Flood Tube did a fantastic job conforming to the curved gutter and preventing water from seeping under it.
The 'pool' we created using the NOAQ Boxwall was fast and easy. It took about 15 minutes to put together and another 30 minutes to line it with plastic. This is an extremely popular flood barrier for residential customers and governmental customers like emergency managers and public works officials alike.
The INERO flood barrier is a new product for us and easy to work with. It is also a 'tough' barrier because of it's metal composition. It is well suited for long term applications and rough environments like construction sites where it may encounter being thrown around by careless workers, debris impacts, or sub-zero freezing temperatures or extended environmental exposure.
NOTE: This product has to be covered with a liner which may need to get swapped out over time but the use of PVC coated fabrics have an extremely long life span outside in the elements. This would be a great product for above ground water storage, primary containment and secondary containment operations.
Overall, we enjoy the fact that flood barriers provide the additional benefit of being able to create recreational ponds and pools independent of flood defense barriers to offer flood protection during a real-world flood event.
