Political Economy of Palestine
At Rethinking Economics, we call for an economics education that is critical, reflective of the challenges and injustice in the world around us and recognises and challenges systemic power imbalances that persist on the basis of race, gender, religion and colonialism.
In the context of the Israeli army’s ongoing bombardment and assault on the southern Palestinian city of Rafah, the continued Israeli occupation of the Gaza Strip and the escalation of violence in the West Bank, this event aims to understands how the political-economy of Palestine and apartheid operates, in an historical as well as a contemporary sense.
This session was organised with network members from Rethinking Economics for Africa [South Africa]; Rethinking Economics for India and Rethinking Economics SOAS.
The session featured short presentations from Professor Ibrahim Shikaki and Professor Amal Ahmad followed by discussion.
