Traffic Update!
Traffic on the Asian Highway/ Indo-Myanmar road from Waikhom Leikai to Singjamei Parking stretch was disrupted by the bandh supporters this morning.
Several clubs and Meira Paibi lups under the area from Kakwa Asem Leikai to Singjamei had jointly called for a bandh on the said road to protest the pathetic condition of the road that has created not just traffic congestion and a big inconvenience to commuters, but also for possible health hazards and threats as an aftermath of the dust on the road. Motorists were compelled to divert and take alternate route, due to the bandh for a few hours.
Meanwhile after a thorough discussion between the club representatives/protestors and the authorities led by Chief Engineer PWD, at the SDO Club, Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai, the bandh was called off this afternoon following an agreement.
The protesters were assured that the authorities would start filling the potholes at the earliest. While they also explained that due to funds not being sanctioned at the moment, the public has to bear for a couple more months until the funds are being sanctioned by the govt, for the complete makeover of the road.
In case the authorities fail to oblige with their commitments, the clubs and Meira paibi unions are ready for agitation of all sorts the protesters ascertained.
