This is my second paid commission, made by the same commissioner as the last one.
The themes of this piece are 2 things : Sunset and Expectations
Thus, I decided to make it the prelude to the last commission.
For this concept, I intentionally choose completely different instruments as the last commission, and especially using a harp instead of piano.
The beginning is just a harp solo with a lots of fifths/fourths. I'm trying to make the harmonious relationship : though fourths are mostly considered strange.
Also a dies irae reference :P But not death, just kind of a foreshadowing of later part.
Vibraphone and guitar are unique pair wwwww
After so, we have the bright harp accompaniment (?)
It's the 2nd section, work as contrast to the last commission, vice versa.
I actually just want to give a bright yet calm feeling, as the title implied. (Guess the meaning of the title!)
However, I still hint a dark melody, developed by the tune played before, as a hint to later section.
Then the clarinet, oboe, bells and piccolo come in!
However I start to make thing darker by time change and mood change, eventually by a key change.
3rd section comes in, with a harp cadenza and a vibraphone accompaniment. Not many words to this. It works as a bending process, intermezzo(?)
4th section starts with again a harp ostinato with single note (?) , then a guitar accompaniment, afterwards vibraphone and glockenspiel. Finally a clarinet comes in with a variant of the theme in first commission. (as yet another foreshadowing in terms of the playing order of 2 commissions)
Develop, develop, develop, then mood swift to darker feel by changing to minor and offkey chord progression. Lastly with half of instruments playing the same melody, closed by a single note of harp.
Transition part is just a reprise of the 4th section melody and a recall of beginning solemn tune in a canonic manner (Though less obvious for bell)
Changing to G# minor, 5th section comes as an answer to the 2nd section: as it is the actual version of 2nd section's hinted melody.
It's dark, as we are towards the second part of the title, and we are going to the carnival (?)
After different instruments playes canonically, the one last harp cadenza comes in as the last section.
The cadenza is expressing quite an excited vibe while contrasting all the things before it.
It works like a transition from the previous sections to the following sections i.e. the last commission.
Here's the whole process!
I actually make a combination of both commission, with some alternations at the very end, showing the full form.
