Linda Darling-Hammond, Charles E. Ducommun Professor of Education at Stanford University and faculty director of the Stanford Center for Opportunity Policy in Education (SCOPE), welcomed federal and state policymakers; school and district leaders; business, teacher, parent, and civil rights organizations; education foundations; and members of the media at the June 11 Rethinking Accountability conference hosted by SCOPE in Washington, D.C.

The conference focused on three critical areas of accountability: creating accountability systems that improve education and foster meaningful learning, the intelligent and equitable use of resources to drive continuous improvement, and ensuring professional accountability and excellence for teachers and school and district leaders.
