Market Weighton town centre roads transformed thanks to £1.5m scheme
A major scheme to resurface and improve town centre roads in Market Weighton is now complete.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council invested £1.5m in the improvement scheme, which saw a 1km stretch of busy, main road through the town resurfaced, from York Road to Sanction Road, as well as some of the roads branching off.
The project began in April and involved resurfacing and improving York Road, Market Place, High Street, Finkle Street, Southgate and Sancton Road, between the junctions of Holme Road, York Road and the A1079 Sancton Road roundabout.
A large majority of the work was carried out in the evening to try to avoid disruptions to drivers and local residents, although some had to be done during the day.
The upgraded road surface has been designed to improve skid resistance and reduce traffic noise.
The work was carried out on behalf of the council by principal contractor Specialist Surfacing Ltd.
