The most professional social media network is LinkedIn. The social media platform allows you to share your experience, skills, and qualifications with prospective employers. It also helps you build and engage with your professional network and grow your personal brand.
I spend a lot of time on LinkedIn. It is a great place to learn, interact with your network, and build your story. Yes, an up-to-date LinkedIn can help you find your next job, but it is more than that. LinkedIn is not just a place to update your profile and find a job. It has evolved since its launch on May 5, 2003. LinkedIn is one of the world's largest professional networks on the internet, and for good reason.
During my marketing career, I have taught LinkedIn to more than 500 colleagues, including students at Duke University. I have found that they need to update their LinkedIn profile, improve their LinkedIn use, and shape their personal brand. Often, conversations with my colleagues take a turn where they ask questions such as: How can I incorporate LinkedIn into my daily work responsibilities? Where do I get more business value from it? How do I maximize my time on it?
Here's what I learned from teaching my colleagues on LinkedIn and what I found most people need to do to use it more effectively.
