The False Gods of Our Time
In the Shahada, we first reject false gods. Then we affirm that there is only one God. Taghut means false deity; it is something that transgresses the boundaries of truth.
Taghut manifests itself in people's understandings of disbelief (kufr), such as atheism, nationalism, and the glorification of a race or national leader, which ultimately leads to darkness.
Our problem today is the Taghut of recognizing the disbelief in political ideas that influence Muslims, such as democracy or freedom of speech. Under the guise of freedom of speech, the West legitimizes insulting the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and we must not allow this.
Likewise, it is Taghut to derive a ruling from anything other than Islamic sources.
