In Part 1, I created the front-facing view of my RPG main character Mark in Aseprite. But he could only face one direction — which meant he couldn't actually walk properly in the game.
So in this video I went back into Aseprite and drew the remaining three directions — left side, right side and back view — including basic walking animation frames for each one.
It wasn't easy. The side view was the hardest part because you have to completely rethink the proportions from a new angle. I also ran into a sprite sheet dimension problem when importing into RPG Maker MZ — the sheet had to be exactly 144x192 pixels to work correctly.
At the end I finally tested the walking animation inside the actual game map. Every frame hand-drawn in Aseprite. No AI, no default character assets.
Still a lot to improve but Mark can finally walk in every direction.
