What does ATM stands for the smart watches?
ATM on the back of a watch stands for ATMOSPHERES. Which is a little odd. 1ATM (or 1 ATMOSPHERE) is the normal atmospheric pressure in day to day life at sea level. Although this isn't a strong and fast rule. Underwater atmospheric pressure is affected by all sorts of things.
Water resistance is stated as a depth ( ATM or Meters ) this means that it has been tested in a laboratory to with stand a static pressure for a short period only at the stated depth. The actual water pressure on the watch during use is greater than the static pressure.
What is IP Ratings for smart watches?
Ingress protection ratings or IP ratings, refer to the level of protection offered by an electrical enclosure, against solids and liquids. In an environment where dust or water could damage electronic components, a sealed enclosure is used to prevent such ingress and safe house the electronics.
Why is Ingress Protection important?
Any entry of solid/liquid ingress particle into the system could damage the electrical equipment. To avoid any such damages to the equipment or in certain cases to retain its efficiency it is important for the equipment to be IP compliant.
