MRI before DTR!
A patient with 50+ years of "TMJ" problems travels from Illinois to Arkansas to see Dr. Nick for an objective take on her problems, and to see if DTR therapy might be helpful for her...
Her issues included:
-occipital pain
-neck and shoulder pain
-aching muscles in her face
-painful spots all over her head
-trouble chewing gum
-tightness in her lower jaw
-trouble chewing gum
-trouble with hypersensitive teeth
Dr. Nick put her through his Neural Occlusion screening protocols, which includes MRI imaging, CBCT hard tissue imaging, Tscan/EMG data gathering, and Joint Vibration Analysis (JVA). This video primarily discusses the advantages of the MRI component to glean definitive and objective information in regards to her TMJ problems and prognosis. Pay particular attention to the end of the video, when she passes along her advise to both doctors and patients in regards to her 50+ years of dealing with her problem (which began by being tripped by the school bully and hitting her lower jaw on the marble floor in elementary school in the 1960's).
An excellent example of a patient with chronically displaced TMJ disks, watch as Dr. Nick explains how MRI imaging can both assist with definitive diagnosis as well as prognosis, and how DTR may or may not play a definitive role in treatment for advanced cases such as this. A sketchy case for sure... She opted to undergo DTR therapy, knowing full well that her joint structures were permanently damaged, and that this potential instability may negate the effectiveness of DTR therapy since DTR non-surgical therapy does not "cure" damaged cartilage. She does feel a lot better after DTR treatment, but time will tell if her pain relief is lasting. If we're lucky, she'll report in for us periodically to report on her progress after DTR!
