In an effort to promote patient adherence, doctors sometimes take an assertive approach with prescribing treatments. Some don't even bother with options... "I'm the doctor, this is what I'm prescribing."

While this may indeed buy you short term compliance, is it possible it could also result in patient "dissatisfaction"?

Let's consider that research has shown not only do patients WANT to be involved in their healthcare decisions, but over 50% are dissatisfied with the level of control they have with decision-making.

While an assertive approach is the right one in certain situations, it can also backfire with resistant patients who feel they're being backed into a corner.

In this week's video I share some research done at a bus station and how the more effective approach to a resistant patient may be the exact opposite of what you think.
