The Spiritual Family workshops focus on three key areas: being a community, domestic virtues, and spirituality based on the teachings of Saint Catherine of Siena. This lecture primarily illustrates the second of these workshops.

Virtue comes from the Greek "areté" and the Latin "vis," which imply strength and fortitude.

Virtue is especially evident when there is no motivation; true virtue emerges when challenges arise. Motivation can drive action, but virtue is revealed when that motivation fades.

Virtues are not only spiritual but also applicable to other areas of life, such as persistence in work.

Three signs of virtue: ease in practicing it, consistency in achieving positive results, and the capacity to grow in what one does.

Saint Vincent de Paul is an example of generosity, working in missions, with priests, and with the poor.

Examples: The virtue of sincerity must be accompanied by prudence, knowing when and how to speak. Fortitude and reliability are essential in teamwork, where each person must be dependable.

Growth in virtue is always guided by prudence, which directs right actions. For example, humility has a learning curve, as it is often perceived as a defeat until its value is understood.

To give virtue a focus, it is helpful to keep in mind both the principal human virtues (prudence, justice, fortitude, and self-control) and the theological virtues (faith, hope, and love). In our time, we should highlight the virtue of hope, which allows us to see beyond difficulties, relying on the light and strength of God.
