Boyan Rasate arrested during Bulgaria first gay parade
Arrests and clashes at the first Bulgarian gay pride parade.
A total of 88 people, 18 of which under-aged, were held by police during the clashes between nationalists and participants in the gay parade in Sofia, Bulgaria. Five police investigations were initiated -- four for hooliganism and one for pick pocketing. One man was arrested for throwing a Molotov cocktail (a petrol bomb) and another two were arrested for battery.
The Bulgarian National Union (BNU), a far-right group has called for a "week of intolerance of gays" and together with other groups threatened violence. The leader of BNU Boyan Rasate -- one of the most serious opponents of the event, has said that he could not guarantee that his people would not get into clashes with the participants in the parade. He was among those held.
