The other day I have a conversation with a young BJJ practitioner about drilling in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. I compared it to acquiring the taste of beer or coffee. You don't typically enjoy it in the beginning. But you like the effects of it so you learn to enjoy it.
Same thing with drilling. You typically don't enjoy drilling techniques or always doing situational rolling. But hopefully in time it helps you become more skilled, and you begin to associate the activity with that.
And in the end its a great exercise in delayed gratification which is useful on and off the mats.
As always, it's just an idea to chew on.
