Today I’m driving to Piton de la Fournaise — one of the most active volcanoes in the world, right here on Réunion Island.
It still feels unreal that this place is part of France… yet looks nothing like France at all.
This road trip takes you through some of the wildest landscapes on the island — from thick fog that appears out of nowhere, to endless lava fields, crater roads, and views that genuinely feel like another planet.
You don’t just look at this volcano from far away… you drive into it.
